Quake 4 Hints
How do I take down this giant freaky thing in the starting area?
of 11: That's a harvester, and it's going to do its best to harvest you!
of 11: You destroy it by blasting it in certain vulnerable spots with your cannon.
of 11: The vulnerable spots include the lowest (sharp) parts of each leg, the two missile launchers on its back, the central "head," and the two guns that are attached near its head.
of 11: You'll know if a cannon hit does damage because the harvester will flinch and squeal if it does.
of 11: It's possible to destroy the harvester's missile launchers and guns by hitting them each several times with the cannon, but there's a much quicker way to handle it.
of 11: Look at how it clunks slowly and clumsily around on those legs.
of 11: What if you were to take a couple of them out?
of 11: You can disable a leg by hitting its lowest segment with two cannon shots.
of 11: And taking out only two legs will immediately destroy the harvester!
of 11: So when the battle begins, charge forward to the harvester, ignore its missiles, and quickly shoot out two of its legs.
of 11: I've found that this strategy works *really* well even on General difficulty with no cheats, so you should be satisfied with it. (Of course, you can always prolong things by destroying the harvester's missile launchers and then its guns to humiliate it, but why bother?)
