Quake 4 Hints
How can I get through the large room with all the moving machinery?
of 13: After saving your game, proceed slowly into the room and watch the machinery to see what its movement pattern is.
of 13: The main dangers are the two giant shovel-like things that go back and forth across the length of the room. Being scooped along by one of those will damage you constantly (and being pushed up against a wall or grindy machine will kill you instantly).
of 13: The smaller machines that go back and forth across the width of the room in two spots will only kill you if they push you into a grindy machine.
of 13: TIP: Check the ends of the two areas that the smaller machines go back and forth between -- one of them has some supplies you can use.
of 13: >From where you start, you need to dodge the moving machines as you make your way to the other end of the room.
of 13: There, you'll find a small alcove with a ladder in it.
of 13: TIP: Just before you get to that alcove, you can find a dead soldier with some hyperblaster ammo next to him in one of the little slop vents.
of 13: After you climb the ladder and start running along the ledge, you'll encounter yet another well-armed Strogg assault squad on both sides of the area.
of 13: Quickly locate the bright orange-and-yellow panel on your side (it's on the wall across from an unlocked door) and use it to extend a bridge over to the other side.
of 13: That way you can take the battle to them if you don't want to try to shoot them all down from across the room. (However, I found that sniping them with the railgun was the best strategy.)
of 13: NOTE: Extending the bridge necessarily shuts down all the moving machinery on the floor below, so don't worry about it if you fall down there (or decide to go down there for cover).
of 13: After the Strogg are all dead, carefully search both sides of the room for supplies. There's lots of them, many of which are behind unlocked doors that don't lead anywhere else.
of 13: The door you need to find to finally leave this area and move on is on the other side of the upper level, directly above the way you first entered the area.
