Quake 4 Hints
How can I defeat the huge thing that they turned Lt. Voss into?
of 10: Strogvoss (as I'll call him) will have a health bar at the top of the screen that's surrounded by a shield indicator. That's because even though you don't really see shields glowing around him, he still has them.
of 10: While his shields are up, you can't hurt him -- only his shields.
of 10: You need to use your rocket launcher or something like that to quickly damage his shields so that he'll have to find a power cable to recharge them at.
of 10: You'll also need to run and strafe like crazy to dodge the homing rockets and dark matter energy blasts (big purple blobs) he throws at you, plus deal with the minor Strogg he teleports in whenever he needs to recharge.
of 10: Note that the area opens up as he's forced to go around to different conduits to recharge.
of 10: After he's forced to recharge twice, you'll be able to circle completely around the large central structure, using it for cover. (Also, you'll be able to access all of the caches of health and ammo.)
of 10: You'll probably be out of rockets by then, so switch to the grenade launcher or railgun and keep circling the center of the room, hitting Strogvoss as he comes around the corner. Thankfully, he's a lot slower than you are.
of 10: If he survives three recharges, he won't have any more power cables within reach to recharge with, and you can really get going on him.
of 10: So the strategy summary is this: Hit Strogvoss with rockets until he needs to recharge, then use some other weapon(s) to quickly kill off the Strogg he teleports in. After doing this three times, he can't recharge anymore and you can just circle around the room's central structure, shooting him and quickly retreating every time he rounds a corner.
of 10: If you think that's far too much trouble to go through, then now is the time to renew your faith in "god" (the Cheat Code, that is).
