Quake 4 Hints
Dark Matter Gun (DMG)
Damage: 30 per second
Splash Damage: up to 50
Max Ammo: 25
First Found: Data Storage Terminal
This gun is Quake 4's version of the good old BFG. Like the BFG, it fires a huge, slow-moving blob. The difference is that the blob doesn't detonate when it hits a monster -- it does him rapid damage, possibly knocking him for a loop, and then moves on until it hits something solid like a wall. That'll take a bit of getting used to, but it's still a great weapon to use on the big boss monsters (as long as you don't let them dodge the blast).
The DMG takes a considerable time to load up another charge after it fires, so be sure to factor that into your combat strategy. When fighting a big boss monster, it's usually best to hit it with a DMG blast and then immediately switch to the rocket launcher and fire some rockets. Only switch back to the DMG when you're under cover (or in a safe area) to let it reload.
