Quake 4 Hints
How can I defeat the network guardian on the rooftop?
1 of 7: Like most big boss monsters, he has a health bar in the top middle of the screen that you can use to see how close to being dead he is.
2 of 7: He's big and slow, so use that to your advantage by quickly running behind cover and using strafing to avoid his shots while filling him full of lead (and rockets, and DMG blasts, etc.).
3 of 7: TIP: The short covered area that's next to the door that leads back to the elevator can provide cover (even though the door is locked), but don't depend on being able to hide there all the time -- the guardian can fly to where he can easily shoot you in there.
4 of 7: TIP: When he's flying around, fire fast-moving projectiles at him like hyperblaster shots and railgun slugs. When he sets down briefly, use rockets and DMG blasts.
5 of 7: TIP: There is quite a bit of ammo, health, and armor scattered about the area, so run around and search for it when you get low.
6 of 7: WARNING: When his health gets low, he'll take to hovering directly over you and burning you with his flight jets. When you see him getting ready to start this up, run for the safety of the doorway you came in through.
7 of 7: WARNING: You'll also have to watch out for bombing runs made by a Strogg flier as you fight the guardian. Fortunately, the flier has a pattern. First, it bombs the left side of the roof (left as you face outward from the door, that is), then the right side, and then the middle. Also note that there's a considerable delay between bombings.
