Quake 4 Hints

General Cheats

  • NOTE: Many codes that require numbers are cvars, and you can see what the current and default settings are by entering the code without numbers. For instance, to see what number represents the default walking speed, type pm_walkspeed on the console without adding on any numbers.

    * god - invincibility toggle (must reuse when enter a new level)
    * undying - can be knocked down to 1 health and 0 armor, but can never die
    * noclip - toggle no-clip mode (can fly and move through solid objects)
    * notarget - invisibility toggle
    * killmonsters - kill all monsters and NPCs
    * g_skill # - reset your skill level at any time (0 = Private thru 3 = General)
    * g_knockback # - distance that melee hits can knock you backwards (0 for none)
    * g_stoptime # - use a 1 to stop time and a 0 to resume it (note that you can move during a timestop, but you can't switch weapons, fire, open doors, etc.)
    * timescale # - default is 1; set higher to speed everything up
    * ai_freeze # - set to 1 to "freeze" everyone in place and 0 to reset to normal (a freeze can have funny side-effects, like marines detaching from their heads)

    * pm_thirdperson # - use a 1 to turn 3rd-person view on, and 0 to turn it off
    * pm_crouchspeed # - how fast you move when you crouch
    * pm_speed # - how fast you move when you run
    * pm_walkspeed # - how fast you move when you walk
    * pm_noclipspeed # - how fast you move with "noclip" on
    * pm_jumpheight # - how high you jump

    * testlight - this code creates a bright new light source where you're pointing (bind it to the T key and then toss lights around all over the place!)
    * poplight - removes a light source created with testlight (be very careful when using as this code messes up the game on rare occasions, forcing you to resort to a save)
    * r_shadows # - set to 0 to remove shadows and 1 to restore them

    * com_showfps 1 - show framerate
    * benchmark - game benchmark
    * gfxinfo - graphics card information
    * editor - open up the map editor
    * aviDemo - save a demo of your playing to an AVI movie file
    * g_showplayershadow # - set to 1 to see your shadow or 0 to turn it off
    * kill - commit suicide
    * quit - quit game

    * screenshot X Y - replace X and Y with numeric values in a 4:3 ratio to take a screenshot at that resolution and put it in TGA format in the game's "q4base\screenshots" directory (example sizes are 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, etc.)
