REAH Hints

The Scale Puzzle

  • 1 of 17: On either side of the scale are 3 weights, each depicting a creature. Pressing a weight changes the creature depicted on it.
  • 2 of 17: There are 11 different creatures: 3 snakes, 2 crabs, 2 lizards, a fish, a crocodile, a stingray and a turtle.
  • 3 of 17: The scale itself has a clue as to which creatures belong on which weights.
  • 4 of 17: The left part of the scale has a "sun" symbol on it.
  • 5 of 17: The right part has a "water" symbol.
  • 6 of 17: Certain of the creatures live in water, while others are found on dry land.
  • 7 of 17: Do you remember seeing some of the creatures on something else?
  • 8 of 17: Did you take a good look at the cloth you dyed after the woman hung it up outside her house?
  • 9 of 17: The cloth had 6 of the creatures on it -- 2 lizards, a fish, a snake, a crab and a stingray.
  • 10 of 17: The 3 land creatures are used for the left weights and the 3 water creatures for the right weights.
  • 11 of 17: Lizards and snakes are NOT water creatures!
  • 12 of 17: All that remains is for you to find out which goes on the top, middle and bottom weights on each side.
  • 13 of 17: The correct sequence was on the cloth.
  • 14 of 17: Number the top left creature (on the cloth) as "1", the bottom left as "2", and so on.  The top row would therefore be 1, 3, 5 -- the bottom row 2, 4, 6.
  • 15 of 17: Now set the weights on the scale in ascending numerical sequence from top to bottom.
  • 16 of 17: The left weights (from top to bottom) are 1, 4, 5.
  • 17 of 17: The right weights (from top to bottom) are 2, 3, 6.
