The Dye Shop

  • 1 of 28: The dye shop is up the ladder at the end of one of the rope bridges.
  • 2 of 28: While exploring the city, you come across a woman who gives you a cloth and asks you to have it dyed for her.
  • 3 of 28: You must be persistent with the dyer's apprentice.
  • 4 of 28: Keep knocking on the door until he gives you permission to enter.
  • 5 of 28: Did you pay attention to what the apprentice said?
  • 6 of 28: He doesn't know how to light the fire.
  • 7 of 28: Hooray!  Finally an adventure that requires you to do more than find matches in order to light a fire.
  • 8 of 28: Think of a way to light a fire without matches.
  • 9 of 28: No, you won't find two sticks to rub together.
  • 10 of 28: How about sunlight and a magnifying glass?
  • 11 of 28: There is a large lens attached to the floor just below the furnace.
  • 12 of 28: On the other end of the shop is a window that has sunlight shining through it.
  • 13 of 28: If only you could direct the sunlight towards the lens, and onto the furnace.
  • 14 of 28: The sunlight is prevented from reaching the other side of the shop by the large carpet hanging in the centre.
  • 15 of 28: Moving the carpet allows the sunlight to reach the other side...
  • 16 of 28: ...but it's not directed at the lens.
  • 17 of 28: Instead it's being deflected off the mirror on the wall next to the furnace.
  • 18 of 28: There are another 3 mirrors on the wall next to the window.
  • 19 of 28: All the mirrors and the lens are adjustable.
  • 20 of 28: You need to work out which mirrors to use -- and also how to adjust them and the lens.
  • 21 of 28: The mirror next to the furnace can be correctly adjusted by pressing the very bottom of it.
  • 22 of 28: You only need to adjust the middle mirror of the 3 on the opposite wall.
  • 23 of 28: The correct adjustment is found by pressing the lower left hand side. (If you imagine the mirror being a clock, press at 7 o'clock)
  • 24 of 28: The lens can be correctly set by pressing it in the centre.
  • 25 of 28: Once you have completed all the adjustments, don't forget to move the carpet to allow the sun to shine across the shop!
  • 26 of 28: You are now able to put the cloth into the burning furnace -- and thereafter remove it.
  • 27 of 28: You will be richly rewarded by the woman when you return her dyed cloth.
  • 28 of 28: Have a good look at the cloth when she hangs it up -- it's a clue to another puzzle you encounter later on.
