The Puzzle of the Crossbows
1 of 15: To get to the crossbows, you will need to go up in the basket lift.
2 of 15: At the point where the lift stops you will find 2 ledges -- leading left and right. At the extreme end of each ledge is a crossbow.
3 of 15: The crossbows have a handle used for firing. On the side of each crossbow are 6 lines which represent the chosen direction. The direction can be changed by moving the actual crossbow.
4 of 15: Most of the arrows you fire seem to have no effect on anything.
5 of 15: However, one of them will!
6 of 15: Begin at the crossbow along the right ledge (it's on the left if you are facing the target area). Change the direction each time you fire an arrow until you see the result of "hitting the target".
7 of 15: The large wheel above the windows will turn.
8 of 15: Now go to the other crossbow and do the same thing.
9 of 15: The wheel won't turn -- but the 2 pipes on either side of it will rise and drop.
10 of 15: Does the target look familiar?
11 of 15: The windows are directly above the locked gate down below.
12 of 15: The wheel and pipes control the gate's locking mechanism.
13 of 15: What did you notice when you tried to open the gate?
14 of 15: It was double-bolted.
15 of 15: You will therefore have to repeat the whole process in order to unlock it.
