The Fountain Puzzle

  • 1 of 25: The locked gate at the end of one of one of the rope bridges leads to the fountain area.
  • 2 of 25: There is a large fountain in the centre, surrounded by water. Around the perimeter are a number of strange buildings. One of these, the bath-house, is more noticeable than the others.
  • 3 of 25: It's a bright beige color and has a flag pole in front of it.
  • 4 of 25: Listen carefully to what the lady explorer (you meet her at the entrance to the bath-house) has to say.
  • 5 of 25: She tells you that the bath-house is flooded with water from the fountain.
  • 6 of 25: Did you notice the water gushing out of the drain to the left of the bath-house?
  • 7 of 25: Perhaps you could stop the flow of water from the fountain to the bath-house.
  • 8 of 25: You can get to the fountain by using the power of the medallion on the water surrounding it.
  • 9 of 25: The water flow between the fountain and the various buildings in this area is controlled by the 8 receptacles around the fountain.
  • 10 of 25: Each receptacle has a tap which opens or closes the flow of water.
  • 11 of 25: Did you take the bottle of red dye from the dye shop?
  • 12 of 25: Pouring some of the red dye into a receptacle will change the color of the water flow it controls.
  • 13 of 25: You can only pour the dye into a receptacle when it has no water in it.
  • 14 of 25: If only you knew which receptacles were linked to the bath-house!
  • 15 of 25: The bath-house is visible directly in front of you from your vantage point at one of the receptacles.
  • 16 of 25: What else is visible?
  • 17 of 25: You can also see, albeit in the distance, the water gushing out of the drain to the left of the bath-house.
  • 18 of 25: Test each receptacle with red dye -- if it is linked to the bath-house the water gushing out the drain will turn red.
  • 19 of 25: If the receptacle is empty, is water flowing in or out of it?
  • 20 of 25: Think about this logically and carefully.
  • 21 of 25: If it's full, then water cannot be flowing out of it.
  • 22 of 25: Therefore water cannot be flowing from it to the buildings!
  • 23 of 25: Close the taps of the receptacles (they must be full of water) that are linked to the bath-house (i.e., those that turned the water red).
  • 24 of 25: All the others must, of course, still be open.
  • 25 of 25: You will now be able to enter the bath-house.
