RedJack: Revenge of the Brethren Hints
How can I open the large door in the mountain, past the dart trap?
of 20: Go up and take a look at the mountain.
of 20: Those gems probably have something to do with letting you in.
of 20: And if you turn around and look above the archway, you'll see a similar pattern of gems drawn there.
of 20: The goal is to move the gems on the mountain until you can recreate that pattern.
of 20: Which, for reference, is red - green - empty - blue - empty on the left and red - empty - blue - green - empty on the right.
of 20: Ask for Anne's help in moving the gems.
of 20: The controls here struck me as a bit counterintuitive, but to take a gem, you click on the person standing in front of it. The gem will appear at the bottom of the screen, and you click on it to put that in an empty hole in front of a person.
of 20: The trick to this puzzle is that whenever one person places or takes a gem, the other person moves up or down a certain number of spaces.
of 20: A green gem moves the person one space. A red gem moves them two. A blue gem moves them three.
of 20: Note that taking and replacing the same gem will still have a net effect of moving the other person. Use this fact to help move the characters to where you want them.
of 20: Also, realize that once you have a gem in the right place, removing it and putting it back repeatedly (so the gem stays where it belongs) will not let you move a character to all of the possible positions. Instead, they'll just alternate back and forth between 2 or 3 of the possible positions. This may mean you'll need to remove a correctly-placed gem or put a gem in the wrong place to get a character where you want him/her.
of 20: Trial and error is really about the only way that I could solve this puzzle. If you want one possible solution, read ahead.
of 20: Nick: take and replace B. Anne: take G. (I've abbreviated the colors R, G, and B, obviously)
of 20: Nick: take R. Anne: take R.
of 20: Nick: take, replace, take, and replace G. Anne: take, replace, and take B.
of 20: Nick: place R. Anne: place and take R.
of 20: Nick: take B. Anne: place G.
of 20: Nick: place B. Anne: place R.
of 20: Nick: take and replace G. Anne: place B.
