RHEM Hints
What can I do with the panel with the seven white buttons?
of 17: Haven't you noticed similar panels scattered around the RHEM countryside?
of 17: They all have seven colored buttons, but none of their buttons are white. Instead, they're red, green, blue, or purple.
of 17: If you try pressing their buttons, you'll notice that after you press four of them in, they pop right back out. That implies that each panel has a certain four-button code. Unfortunately, those other panels aren't very helpful in figuring out that code.
of 17: That's where the control room's white-button panel comes in handy. It displays the numbers 1 thru 4 every time you press four of its buttons.
of 17: Better yet, after you press the fourth button, the colors of the four numbers change before they disappear.
of 17: That's your clue! Use that to figure out the four-button sequences for each of the four types of colored button panels.
of 17: To start with, mentally number the buttons from 1 to 7 starting at the bottom left. Click on the graphic below to see what I mean.
of 17: Now try pressing buttons 1 thru 4 in that order.
of 17: Notice that the numbers turn green, red, purple, and purple in that order.
of 17: That means that the button we labeled as #1 is the first button to press on any green panel. Also, button #2 is the second one to press on any red panel, and buttons #3 and #4 are the last two to press on any purple panel.
of 17: Now press another button sequence, like 7-6-5-4.
of 17: If you do that one, you'll see that #7 is the first button to press on a purple panel and #4 is the last one to press on a purple panel (which we already knew). As for #6 and #5, #6 is *not* the second one to press on any color of panel, and #5 is *not* the third one to press on any color of panel.
of 17: Those two trials already gave us most of the purple button panel combo: 7-?-3-4. Keep going until you finish it and get the complete green, red, and blue sequences, too.
of 17: Click on the graphics below for visual solutions for each of the four colors. Note that the numbers in these graphics refer to the order in which buttons are pressed instead of the numbering system we used above.
of 17: NOTE: In case you were wondering why the decoder panel's buttons are white, that's because black and white are technically not individual colors. Black is the absence of all color, and white is every color at once.
