How can I determine which sound goes with which symbol?

  • 3 of 18: Check Rhiannon's bedroom and you will find some of her physics homework. It relates to different materials having different resonant frequencies.
  • 4 of 18: It talks about wood, paper, plastic, and ceramics, which have low to high resonant frequencies in that order.
  • 5 of 18: You now need to take a listen to the four recordings that you made with the MP3 player, and use your ears to place them in a similar order.
  • 6 of 18: Put them in an order from lowest tone to highest tone.
  • 7 of 18: The electrical generator sound is the lowest.
  • 8 of 18: The bathroom fan is higher than this.
  • 9 of 18: The refrigerator from the kitchen is higher than that.
  • 10 of 18: And, the sound of water from the waterwheel is the highest of all.
  • 11 of 18: Now, link those four sounds with those four types of material, and take a look at the four symbolic objects that you collected today.
