Rhiannon: Curse Of The Four Branches Hints

General Game Hints / Commentary

  • Rhiannon: Curse Of The Four Branches is a traditional first-person still-scene adventure game. The entire game consists of clicking to move between pre-determined screens, solving puzzles, collecting items, and reading. This is not a simple game, it's involving, confusing, and at times frustrating. You won't encounter any other living characters in the entire game, which means that dialogue is kept to a minimum throughout. You are also given very few hints and instructions on what to do. It is your task to figure it all out yourself.

If there's one general hint I can give you on this game, it is to be thorough. Just because you have checked an item or area, that is not a reason not to check it again in the next chapter, or even later in the same chapter. Whereas in most adventure games, you can pick up every object that isn't nailed down, even if it isn't to be used for absolutely ages, Rhiannon is different. Your character will only pick up an item if he has seen with his own eyes an opportunity to use it. See a ladder in the house? You won't be able to take it with you until you've seen something high up and out of your reach that you'd need a ladder to reach.

You'll also be doing a lot of reading in the game. There's an absolute myriad of written documents, scrolls, books, papers, blueprints, and other things, all of which help to provide the same immersion that a lack of in-game dialogue and direct hand-holding would. There were only a couple of leaps of faith in-game, and it's very possible that even those couple that I spotted had some clue hidden away in the back of a folder or paper somewhere. If you need to know how to do something or where to find something, the game WILL tell you, but finding that instruction may well be very difficult. It's a tricky game on the whole, but an enjoyable and rewarding one.
