Ripper Hints

A General Strategy...

  • Your first objective is to block the attack that will be coming against your king.  In the process, it will be a good idea to try to kill enemy pieces, but also to lose all your pawns in the process.  This will activate your bishops.  Bring your pawns together in the center, so that they can support each other.

Try to keep your pawns out of the line of attack of the enemy bishops, until some of your pawns have morphed.  Otherwise, the enemy bishops can take even supported pawns and will not be taken in turn.

As your pawns are promoted, be on the look out for a way to trade an enemy bishop for a pawn.  Entering the end game with two bishops to one is a decisive edge.

After your bishops are active, keep them side by side on a row or column, so they support each other, and make an unbreachable wall.   Move toward the last enemy bishop, one square at a time.

When the opposing bishops are gone, move your bishop near the enemy king.  (But not too near!)  You can step slowly closer, and drive it to a corner.  You can use your king if you need a tempo move.  The enemy kind will have to move into your line of control and be taken.
