2 of 12: Talk to Watson and to the butler several times.
3 of 12: Hepplethwaite must tell Holmes of its existence before it can be found.
4 of 12: Then ask Silverbridge about the pink paper.
5 of 12: Notice the inscription on the left table?
6 of 12: Take a rubbing of the inscription.
7 of 12: Eventually you can pick up the pencil from the floor.
8 of 12: Use the pencil and foolscap on the inscription to get a rubbing.
9 of 12: Hmm...a chess move.
10 of 12: Use the chess move on the chess board.
11 of 12: Click! A panel below the chess board unlocks. Open it.
