Rise of the Triad: Dark War Hints
Can I please have some general strategies?
Oh, all right. Here are a couple of playing hints that can get you somewhat safely through El Oscuro's monastery:
It's sad that you'll have to conserve most of your weapons for tougher enemies. During the most of the game, you'll be using your MP-40 almost all of the time. Why? Unlimited ammo. Save your missile weapons for Triad Enforcers and Monks. Don't worry about conserving weapons for bosses -- there is usually an ample supply of weapons when you reach one.
Since you WILL be using your MP-40 a lot, remember one thing: if you shoot something rapidly, it will be too busy screaming and bleeding to do too much. Keep this up until it dies.
Whenever you are in a room with Fire Walls or Fire Pits, take it slow. Some people I know run throughout these sections recklessly, and end up slamming right into a Fire Wall (which leads them to their demise). Don't say I didn't warn you!
Also, you can only carry one missile weapon at a time. So, if you grab a Bazooka, and find a Flame Wall close by, get the Flame Wall, toast everyone in the area until you're out of ammo, then pick up the Bazooka again. This will conserve both Bazooka shots, as well as keeping you healthy.
Interesting tip: if a missile explodes next to Priest Porridge, it becomes Priest Porridge Hot, and it gives you more life. Use this tip wisely. Only warm up porridge if you're low on life, or else you're just wasting a missile.
The automap is extremely vital in this game. If you can't seem to open a door or pushwall (it says it's "locked"), then look for a touchplate or switch. Touchplates appear on maps, but try adjusting the background color so they can be more visible.
Look for the three Developer's Balls! They give a lot of points and some lives.
Blow up barrels. They aren't quite as explosive as the barrels in Doom, so you don't have to be really far away. Some barrels have items or weapons in them.
That's really about all of the strategies I can give. Have fun!
