Rise of the Triad: Dark War Hints
Remote Ridicule
One of the cooler things about Rise of the Triad is the Remote Ridicule system. In network games, just press a button, speak into the microphone (connected into your sound card) and your opponent(s) will hear it. With modem games, it's a bit different.
The sound files are kept in RTS files. You can change these in the setup program. Although the sound effects you get are nice, you can find other ones, or make your own! One good idea is to take the RTS file from Duke Nukem 3D and use that. Very funny! You can also compile the voice files from Terminal Velocity and use them. Other ones can be found on various on-line services (check in the user-created add-ons section in the Apogee area on AOL). Ones I have seen include Forrest Gump and Army of Darkness files.
You can also make your own RTS files. Full instructions are in the README file, so read that over for more directions. The best way to make your own is to record 10 WAV files in Windows. Then, translate them to VOC files using a utility like WAV2VOC.
There are also a bunch of WAV files in the \GOODIES\WAVS directory on the CD that can be used for Capture the Triad. They are called RT_1 through RT_10. Use those for other good RTS files.
