Choosing the character for you
Honestly, choosing a character REALLY doesn't have a profound effect on one-player games. However, the best choices are usually Doug Wendt and Taradino Cassat. Taradino has all around good skills, and Doug has a large amount of hit points. However, feel free to choose any of the characters you want.
