Electronic Diary
When something new is added to the Electronic Diary, a small version of the diary will appear on the lower-right part of your screen. Right-click, or press the ESCape keyboard key, to open it.
Be sure and read Fred's Diary at the beginning of a new segment for his thoughts about the previous one, and for some clues about your next objectives.
Some items are meant to be viewed rather than used. This will be true for letters, photographs, maps, etc. If something is not in your inventory, look for it behind the pencil icon under the Notes section. It is important to look at them, because doing so usually opens up new conversation topics.
Some items are meant to be combined together. You can do this in the inventory window itself. Try different combinations and try often.
