Where can I find a medium-sized piece of bamboo?
1 of 6: You may have encountered some bamboo growing on the island already.
2 of 6: From the scarecrow, head for the clearing by the lake (where there is a big area of red clay).
3 of 6: Look around at what's growing in this area.
4 of 6: You should find both small and medium bamboo shoots growing. (Do not use the large bamboo piece lying on the ground -- although you may wish to pick it up now for use later.)
5 of 6: You can't just pull the bamboo up by hand.
6 of 6: Use your knife to cut the bamboo, and add it to your inventory.
