Return to Mysterious Island Hints

Where can I find saltpeter?

  • 1 of 8: Saltpeter is a natural mineral, consisting predominantly of potassium nitrate.  It is often found when air and moisture allow "nitrification" of animal or plant decay.
  • 2 of 8: Where, on the island, might there be a place that is damp, cold, and clammy?
  • 3 of 8: Have you been down in the cavern below Granite House yet?
  • 4 of 8: From the back left cavern (the one with the crude bookshelf, and the inscription on the wall), look around to find a hole in the floor, with a ladder leading down.  ("A faraway cry..."!)
  • 5 of 8: As you climb down the ladder, check the walls around you.
  • 6 of 8: You should find some saltpeter on the walls of the cavern, at the bottom of the ladder.
  • 7 of 8: It's the whitish material on the wall behind the ladder.
  • 8 of 8: Click on it to take the saltpeter into inventory.
