How do I open the safe?
1 of 7: First you need to find the missing piece.
2 of 7: The game calls it a "carved stone block" and you'll find it in the pipe safe in The Loft.
3 of 7: Once you put in the missing piece, your character says it's a Polybius square. If you know what that is, you're off and running -- use it to decipher the numbers on top. If you're still at sea, read on; it's not that complicated.
4 of 7: Each pair of numbers represents one letter. The first pair of numbers is 34. To look this up on the square, find the first number on the left and the second number on the top. Find where the row crosses the column, and that's the letter you want; in this case, it's O.
5 of 7: Continue turning the numbers into letters, ignoring the breaks. What you end up with is --
6 of 7: ONETWOSIXFIVE, or 1265. That's the combination you want.
7 of 7: So turn the first wheel to 1, the second to 2, the third to 6, and the last to 5.
