Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure Hints
How do I get the key in the fountain?
of 10: Well, not easily, I'm afraid. In fact, you won't be able to get that key until the last third of the game.
of 10: The first step is to turn the water on. You'll find the pump in The Basement, in the area called The Store Room.
of 10: Then you need to find the missing piece, the one that goes in the hole in the floor. It's called a "fountain plug," and you'll find it in the snooker safe in The Games Room -- which is upstairs. Once the water is turned on and you have the plug, come back here and put the plug in --
of 10: -- to find that you still can't reach the key. Rats!
of 10: You need to fill that central glass vase with water to make the key float to the top. To do this, you'll need to adjust the four water jets spraying into the fountain, which you do by stepping on the floor panels by the water jets. The trick is that each jet needs to hit a specific hole in order to fill the vase, and it's a different hole on each side.
of 10: You can figure this out on your own by walking around the room stepping on the panels and seeing what happens --
of 10: -- but you don't have to, because I'll tell you that the north jet needs to be at the left hole, the east at the right, the south at the right, and the west at the center.
of 10: And now you've discovered the other problem: in order to step on a panel more than once, you need to cross to another panel and come back, which naturally resets the second panel. That means you'll have to figure out how many times each panel needs to be stepped on, then find a way to step on them all just exactly the right number of times. Argh!
of 10: There are many ways to do this, but here's how I got hold of that key:
of 10: Start at the south after you put the fountain plug in, with the jets set at their original settings. Then walk: West - north - west - north - west (the fountain rises one notch) - north (fountain rises another notch) East - south - east (fountain rises another notch) - south (fountain rises the last notch). You can now reach in and take the key.
