What kind of nastiness is going on here?
Well, you tell me. What do you think is going on?
The thing is, this isn't necessarily as revolting as it probably looked at first. If you pay close attention to what Grandpa Mole actually says, it looks like he's just a nice grandfather who deserves a more receptive grandchild than Nefertiti, or at least a younger one. He wants to tell bedtime stories and sing nursery rhymes and play baby games. That's all.
All of which is just to say, don't read into it any more than is really there. Sometimes a bedtime story is just a bedtime story.
