What's with all the floating Max heads?
These little Fake Maxes (the game calls them spores) are extrusions from the Max beast. They fly around trying to make people sleep so they can give them nightmares and harvest the psychic energy from them to give to Max, whom they call the Host. There isn't really anything you can do with them, and all conversations with them consist of them trying to bore you to sleep, so you don't really need to bother with them if you don't want. (Though some of the things they consider deadly boring are pretty funny.)
