Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Hints
General Tips
1 of 10: This hint file covers only the solo mode of Chaos Theory for the PC. I've heard that the XBox version is nearly identical, though the PS2 and GameCube versions are significantly different. These hints don't attempt to list every possible solution for every situation, but instead give one or two of the best (usually stealth-related) solutions that I know of.
2 of 10: To get the best mission rating, you not only need to complete every objective (except bonus ones), you also need to set off no alarms, never be recognized as an intruder, never kill or injure anyone, and never let anyone find someone you knocked out. You can succeed in a mission after doing several of those things, but you won't get the full 100% rating.
3 of 10: You get to choose your loadout at the beginning of each mission. The stealth loadout is always the best one for those who are dedicated to getting the highest rating, which is what this hint file is primarily concerned with.
4 of 10: You should sneak up on as many enemies as you can and grab ahold of them and interrogate them. You can often learn important info from doing this. When you're through interrogating, hit the Alternate Fire key to knock them out, then drag the body somewhere out of sight if they're in a spot where they're likely to be seen by other guards or security cameras.
5 of 10: When you're sneaking up behind someone or trying to sneak past him while passing by close, you should always have your weapon out, since that makes your character automatically move much more slowly and silently. You can sneak very quietly without a weapon out by gently tapping the movement keys instead of holding them down. Also, if there's a flat wall nearby, you can sneak quietly along it after moving up to it and using the Back to Wall key.
6 of 10: Whether or not a sneak is successful is somewhat random, and the game can be much less forgiving on higher difficulty levels, so it's important to quicksave often. So that you don't have to replay an entire mission if you quicksave at the wrong time, it's also important to make regular named saves every now and then (like every time you finish a particular area and are sure you did it right).
7 of 10: It can often be faster or easier to just sneak by enemies in many areas, so feel free to sneak by one when I say to interrogate him or knock him out, but remember that he might cause trouble later if he finds another guy you knocked out, hears a noise you make, responds to an alarm, etc. Also, the more enemies you sneak by, the less info you find out by interrogating them. If you're playing on Expert difficulty, though, you often don't have any choice but to just sneak by due to the extreme difficulty of sneaking up behind someone undetected.
8 of 10: Another thing I often do in these hints is provide ways of knocking out enemies without using up limited resources like airfoil rounds and sticky shockers. Go ahead and use them whenever my tactics are giving you too much trouble, since doing everything exactly my way usually ends up with you having most of your nonlethal gadgets left over when you finish a mission.
9 of 10: One nonlethal attack that I usually don't mention in the hints is that you can pick up objects like rocks, bricks, large bottles, etc. and knock out guards with them by throwing the object so that it hits the target squarely in the back of the head. It doesn't always work, especially if the target is not close to you, so save before trying. Doing this is mainly useful if you're running low on nonlethal projectiles.
10 of 10: There are medkits on walls in many places in the game, usually at least one or two per mission. How much of your health they can restore depends on the difficulty level you chose when you started the game, but it shouldn't matter since you ought to be using stealthy techniques to handle everything -- that not only gets you the highest mission rating, but also keeps you healthy (remember: stealthy = healthy).
