Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Hints
How can I defuse all the bombs in the furnace room?
of 15: TIP: Before you enter the furnace room, get your sticky shockers ready to use. Airfoil rounds work too, but you have to hit near the head for a KO, so sticky shockers are a bit easier to use.
of 15: When you first enter the furnace room, look up and shoot out the light above you (with the rifle so you don't have to take the time to switch weapons), then quickly run over to the locked door and break the lock.
of 15: Go down the ground-floor passage that's left of the stairs, then go all the way to the back (crouch-walking under some pipes).
of 15: The first bomb is on the back of the large metal thing to the left. Quickly choose to defuse it as soon as you get the option (each defusing takes awhile).
of 15: As soon as you're done defusing it, save your game and make your way back to the stairs. Have a sticky shocker ready for the I-SDF guy who's there. You should be able to get him at or near the base of the stairs before he sees you (thanks to the shot-out light, which he paused to examine).
of 15: Quickly hide his body a short way down the passage you went down to get the first bomb, then run up the stairs to the top.
of 15: Don't run along the catwalk, though -- instead, shimmy up onto the large machine that's sticking up next to the top of the stairs, shoot out the nearby light, then carefully drop down the other side.
of 15: The second bomb is right there, blinking merrily at you, so quickly disarm it and save your game again.
of 15: Now sneak over to the pipe that's in the corner, climb up it, and shimmy onto the machine. You want to climb up onto the machine again, but not too soon or the two guards who are climbing the stairs will see you.
of 15: Quicksave as soon as you're holding onto the top of the machine, then try climbing up. If the guards see you, quickrestore and wait a couple of seconds before trying again.
of 15: If you time it right, you should see both guards walking away from you along the catwalk. Quickly shoot the back one with a sticky shocker, then the front one. (If the front one has already turned the corner up ahead, try to catch him as soon as he comes in sight on the other side.)
of 15: ALTERNATIVE: Instead of climbing the pipe, jump up and pull yourself onto the nearby catwalk. Look to the left where there's a gap in the machinery. Wait until you see the second guy about to pass out of sight of the gap, then zap him. Get the first guy quickly as he rounds the corner ahead of you.
of 15: Drop down onto the catwalk (if you're not on it already) and run along it to the other side of the room.
of 15: Right after you pass a pile of cement bags, look to the left to find that the third and final bomb is next to a little ledge that you can make a running jump over to. (Once again, it helps to shoot out the nearby light before defusing the bomb.)
of 15: As soon as the bomb is defused, uncrouch and jump back to the catwalk, then run over to the left back corner so the guard coming in through the door directly across the room won't see you at first, especially if he gets interested in the shot-out light. Hit him with a sticky shocker as soon as he walks into the room.
