How do I interpret the reading on the meter?

  • 1 of 5: The meter consists of two rings that, together, display the total amount of gas dispensed.
  • 2 of 5: Note that the outer ring measures units of twelve (not ten).
  • 3 of 5: Every notch on the outer ring (counted clockwise, from the top center) represents 12 units of gas.  So if the meter is pointing to the fifth notch, that would represent a measurement of 60 units of gas (5 notches x 12 units per notch).
  • 4 of 5: The inner ring measures individual units of gas (counted clockwise from the top center).
  • 5 of 5: So, if the outer ring was on the fifth notch, and the inner ring was on the third notch, the total gas would be 63 units of gas (5 x 12 = 60; plus 3).
