Why can't I tie the rope on the lamp?

1 of 2: The game won't let you tie the rope to the lamp until the game is certain you know *why* you should be doing that.
2 of 2: You will actually need to Enter the locked room behind the attic stairs, and complete a task there. Be sure to complete all the instructions in What do I need to do inside the locked room? -- up to and including clicking on the extra room in the blueprints for yourself.
