Scratches Hints

I hear an odd (scratching) sound. What do I do?

  • 1 of 12: Have you tried to figure out where the sound is coming from?
  • 2 of 12: When you walk to the other side of the bedroom, you should notice that the scratching sound is louder.
  • 3 of 12: The only thing of any significance on the other side of the room is the fireplace.
  • 4 of 12: Just going into a close-up of the fireplace won't help.  You'll have to figure out a way to listen more carefully at the fireplace.
  • 5 of 12: Have you found any sort of "listening equipment" yet?
  • 6 of 12: You'll need to use the stethoscope.
  • 7 of 12: Once you use the stethoscope on the back wall of the fireplace, you will receive a clue, of sorts, as to the source of the scratching.
  • 8 of 12: The scratching seems to be somehow related to (or coming from) the fireplace.  Can you think of another place in the house to obtain further clues as to the source of the sound?
  • 9 of 12: This isn't the only fireplace in the house.
  • 10 of 12: Go downstairs to the living room.  Listen at the fireplace there (you'll also need to use the stethoscope at the back of the fireplace there as well).
  • 11 of 12: You should obtain an additional clue as to the source of the sounds.  Michael seems to think the sounds are originating from below the fireplace.
  • 12 of 12: You can try investigating the noises further, but you won't be able to learn more at the moment.  The only thing left is to go back upstairs and return to bed.  Note: When you return to the bedroom upstairs, Michael should comment that the scratching suddenly stopped.  If he doesn't you won't be able to return to bed.  You may need to look at both fireplaces again (especially the one downstairs), until you hear the proper message in the bedroom and can go back to bed.
