Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints
Is there a puzzle that involves all of these stairways?
of 27: After solving the most recent golden puzzle grid, you should have a doorway on your left-hand side.
of 27: Through the doorway is a grayish staircase. This staircase is the start of the next puzzle area.
of 27: This puzzle is not quite as obvious as the previous ones.
of 27: Also, like the others in Argannas, it is randomly generated each time you play a new game, so there is no single solution. The following hints provide information on the process of solving the puzzle, regardless of the final solution.
of 27: Begin by exploring all of the staircases -- as far as you can go.
of 27: You will know that you have reached the end of the series of staircases when you reach a room at the top of the tower where Dormeuse tells you about Argannas being her favorite place. (At the far end of this room is a small set of stairs, going up and then down, seemingly going nowhere.)
of 27: You'll need to be a bit more observant as you walk these staircases, if you are to solve this puzzle.
of 27: Make note of everything that you see along the way (within the staircase, that is -- not necessarily the outdoor views that are available from several points).
of 27: One of the first things you should notice are the plaques on various walls -- along the staircases, on landings, or in the top room.
of 27: The plaques, once again, reflect the various glyphs from the golden puzzle grid -- glyphs that have been part of all of the previous puzzles.
of 27: Remembering the previous method of solving such puzzles, what is it that you will need to know about this one?
of 27: All of these puzzles are sound-based. This one is no different.
of 27: But the sounds may not be quite so obvious.
of 27: There are no bells to ring, no cranks to turn, no barrels to roll...
of 27: ... only stairs to walk.
of 27: But listen carefully as you walk the staircases.
of 27: Each staircases exhibits a distinct sound of your footsteps.
of 27: Those footstep sounds are the "sounds to match" for this part of the puzzle.
of 27: By treading the stairs -- probably repeatedly -- you should be able to identify the one sound that is similar between several of them (and, hence, the staircases that are part of the puzzle solution).
of 27: As with the barrel puzzle, the number of matching sounds increments once again. You will need to find five staircases that produce a matching "tread" sound.
of 27: But if this puzzle is to be solved in the same manner as the previous ones, you'll need more than just the matching sounds, and the glyphs associated with those staircases. You'll also need an order in which the glyphs will be entered into the currently-open golden puzzle grid.
of 27: How can you infer any order to the target glyphs?
of 27: There are no multi-sided posts, no knotted ropes, no obvious way of ordering the staircases.
of 27: This one is far simpler -- no terribly convoluted order...
of 27: ... just the order of the staircases/glyphs from the lower to the higher levels.
of 27: Now use the information about the glyphs, and the number of stairs (of the glyphs with matching "stair sounds") to obtain the code for the currently-open golden puzzle grid.
of 27: (Note that some symbols may be "mirror images" of what you actually find on the "golden puzzle grid". That is valid.)
