How do I lower the grates?
1 of 16: There are no active spots on the grates themselves...
2 of 16: ... nor any controls on the surrounding metal framing.
3 of 16: Surely there must be a way.
4 of 16: Before you came up to the top level, did you play with the four handles on the console?
5 of 16: Do you recall hearing a mechanical sound in the distance, when you did?
6 of 16: What happens if you play with the handles now?
7 of 16: Pick one (or more) of the handles, and lower it.
8 of 16: Listen carefully, and look around you after you have done that.
9 of 16: If you're still not sure what has happened, stand facing the elevator console -- with the four handles in front of you, and the vertical row of elevator buttons to your right. You should be able to see one of the grates in the distance.
10 of 16: Now lower the second handle from the left.
11 of 16: What happened?
12 of 16: Try raising the same handle.
13 of 16: Looks like we've got something here.
14 of 16: Play with the other handles, to see what each one does.
15 of 16: You will only be able to lower two handles at a time. To lower a third, you will need to raise one of the ones that is already lowered.
16 of 16: This means that the most you can do at any one time is to lower two of the grates.
