Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints
What am I supposed to do at the "umbrella stands" at the end of the walkways?
of 17: Before going into any detail on those objects, you'll need to make sure that you can reach them.
of 17: Explore around the columns, and see what you can do.
of 17: There is a "wheel" of some kind, in front of each of the columns, that is active.
of 17: Try playing with the wheel.
of 17: Each click of the wheel causes the column to either raise or lower.
of 17: It doesn't matter where you click -- in the middle, or on any of the "spokes" of the wheel.
of 17: The column will always move one "notch"...
of 17: ... and continue to move in a "cycle" -- i.e., with each click, it will move to either full extension up, or full compression down, then change direction and go the other way.
of 17: As you move a column up or down, what do you find?
of 17: There seem to be more colored circles than you saw at first.
of 17: In fact, there are five colored circles... on each of the columns.
of 17: What is unique about the colored circles? (Before you can answer this, you will need to have gained access to at least two of the columns. So if you have only made your way out to one of them, you may wish to pause here, and continue working on completing the other walkways.)
of 17: Once you have made your way out to two or more of the columns, you will notice that the colored circles are placed on each column in a different order.
of 17: It should be fairly obvious that the solution to this part of the puzzle is to "set" each column at a specific height...
of 17: ... and that height can only be determined by the colored circles on each of the columns.
of 17: There is only one unique solution that matches. Go to each of the five columns, and -- using the control wheel -- set them so that the "target" color for each column is the color that displays through the square cutout at the base of the column.
