I know where the coins go, but how do I make James put them in place?
Stupid interface! Stand near the desk, but don't Use it. Go into inventory and Use one of the coins. You'll go into close-up and choose which slot to put it in. Back out of the scene and repeat with the other two coins. If you want to move a coin you've placed, use the desk empty-handed; you'll be asked what coin you want to remove. Back out and start over.
