2 of 8: But this time, they're not Roman numerals, even mucked-up ones. It remains, then, to figure out what the letters stand for.
3 of 8: The letters are all lowercase and range from a to k.
4 of 8: And the numbers are all single digits.
5 of 8: Since you never see the same number twice in one combination, the letters must be numbers other than 1-9.
6 of 8: The dial on the safe goes up to 20.
7 of 8: So a=10, b=11, c=12, d=13, e=14, f=15, g=16, h=17, i=18, j=19, and k=20.
8 of 8: For example, if your note said 7 >> j << d >> 2, the combination would be 7, 19, 13, 2.
