Silent Hill 2 Hints
Extra
of 22: You know the prisoner's a woman, so you may not have bothered to examine the coins this time.
of 22: But you need to, because they're not quite the same as they were.
of 22: This time each coin has a flip side. On the other side of the Old Man is a Gravestone; on the other side of the Snake is a Crescent Moon; and on the other side of the Prisoner is an Egg.
of 22: With that in mind, let's look at the poem again:
of 22: The quotes around "right" make it stand out like a sore thumb.
of 22: It could mean we start from the right and go left.
of 22: "Thrice falling" could mean we have to flip the coins --
of 22: -- but since the game doesn't let you place them flipside up in the slots, it's just telling us we only need three coins for the five slots.
of 22: "The Horned One" is either the Snake or its obverse, the Crescent Moon (which looks like horns, or so they used to think). So that coin isn't first.
of 22: "The first note" is sounded in the place that "all sins be sprung." You might think this was just a misogynist reference to the woman coin.
of 22: But she's referred to later. Think more primeval, even before Eve.
of 22: What came before Eden? Nothingness.
of 22: So the first space is empty.
of 22: Next is "the Bringer of Life." That could equally apply to woman or egg, so the Prisoner/Egg is next --
of 22: -- followed by "The Bringer of Shame." That sounds like the Snake to me.
of 22: So the Snake/Crescent Moon is next.
of 22: "The Aged One" is the Old Man --
of 22: -- but before him is "the Formless One." Another blank.
of 22: "The gravest of sinners whose place be appointed" sure sounds like a Gravestone to me. So the Old Man/Gravestone is in the last spot.
of 22: So the array is: empty -- Prisoner -- Snake -- empty -- Old Man.
of 22: Except, of course, we're reading from right to left this time. Remember "right"?
of 22: So the REAL final array is: Old Man -- empty -- Snake -- Prisoner -- empty.
