Mainly by location. If you're not sure where you are, check the map; if you don't have a map handy or it's no help, save a game and take a look at how the location is identified. In some situations, you have to go back and forth between two locations to solve a single puzzle; in those cases, I'll try to have enough links in both sections so you can find what you need.
