So is Maria a real person or not?
My guess is no. As James says, he created her to punish himself for killing Mary; watching her die over and over is his way of working out his guilt, grief, and anger. She's Mary without the sweetness or restraint, a Mary that James can lust after, hate without guilt, and feel justified in killing again --
-- or is she a demon, a vicious parody of Mary, Mary as interpreted by Samael the demon king, who thinks sex is the reason James loved Mary, created solely to draw James ever deeper into damnation?
