General Strategies
1 of 12: No hints for specific puzzles are contained in this hint, so you can read ahead without having to worry about spoilers.
2 of 12: First, look with your eyes at everything in the view section of the screen. I've missed puzzles because I didn't see things on the screen.
3 of 12: Second, use the LOOK command on anything of interest. Doing so can give valuable information about what you need to do with it. Looking can never hurt.
4 of 12: Some objects -- like monsters, contact poison, and traps -- are extremely dangerous. Be careful around these items.
5 of 12: There are several weapons in Castle Shadowgate. Take all of them. Each weapon has a specific use.
6 of 12: If you read something, immediately write down what it said. Most of the written things disappear once you've read them, and they contain valuable clues.
7 of 12: Think logically. Almost everything has some form of logic behind it.
8 of 12: Be creative. While most solutions are logical, some of them aren't, or they are, but they're a little silly.
9 of 12: Use spells. Some puzzles have magical solutions. All of the spells work as keys after a fashion.
10 of 12: Pay attention. It's easy to miss some solutions if you're not watching details closely.
11 of 12: Collect everything you see. There are a few useless items, but not many.
12 of 12: Don't do anything obviously stupid, like drinking acid or walking into a dragon's mouth. On the other hand, I committed suicide many times, just because I wanted to see the death scenes. Just make sure you save first if you do this.
