Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin Hints
How can I determine which is Johnson's locker?
of 18: This is an elaborate but sensical puzzle.
of 18: You need to listen to all the clues you were given by the guards, including the one you spoke to -- all the clues found in the objects and documents in the dormitory, and any other information you can deduce. Use all of Sherlock's skill!
of 18: Take the known facts first:
of 18: The locker with moustache hair outside it, and the locker with green paint on it.
of 18: These match the features of two of the guards we met outside, Shick and Kirkpatrick.
of 18: So, place Shick at Locker 6, and Kirkpatrick at Locker 12 -- we are certain of those two facts.
of 18: Now continue to extrapolate truths from the remaining information you have.
of 18: The guard outside the cloakroom will give you additional hints before Lupin's sleeping pill knocks him out.
of 18: He will tell you that Flint's locker is at the back of the room -- furthest from the door.
of 18: He will also tell you that his locker is inbetween those of Bell, and the new warder.
of 18: It's also possible to work out who the new warder is -- he left a clue in the dormitory.
of 18: There is a letter on a table there from an R. Moore, and by reading it you can determine that Moore is the new worker.
of 18: So we know that Hickman belongs between Bell and Moore.
of 18: He also tells you that the short guard is Jones.
of 18: The stepping stool outside locker 16 thus proves that this is Jones' locker.
of 18: With these pieces of information you should be able to place all the other guards -- just remember that Moore, Hickman, and Bell need three adjacent lockers, and that Willoughby is closer to the entrance than any of the three of them, on the same side.
of 18: The order of the lockers is shown below:
of 18: 1: O'Shea 2: Willoughby 3: Moore 4: Hickman 5: Bell 6: Shick 7: Johnson 8: Summerbee 9: Flint 10: Ludlow 11: March 12: Kirkpatrick 13: Stiles 14: Mortensen 15: Law 16: Jones
