The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints
How can I solve the safe-opening puzzle?
of 9: Remembering that you're trying to group colored balls together, think about what the best opening move would be.
of 9: Notice that the top ball in the central section is red, and the bottom one is green.
of 9: Also notice that over in the left section, the ball just above the gap is red, and the one just below it is green.
of 9: That's not true of the right section, so the best opening move is to hit the central section's left arrow to move its balls into the left section.
of 9: Now take a look over at the right section's gap. You'll see a green ball above it, and a blue one underneath it.
of 9: A good move to make next would be to rotate the left section counter-clockwise (with its up arrow) twice, then hit the central section's right arrow twice. That'll get three green balls moved over to where they're next to another green ball in the right section.
of 9: Rotate the right section clockwise (up arrow) five times, then hit the central section's left arrow twice. That'll get three red balls moved over to the left side to where they'll be next to three other red balls.
of 9: That starts you on the path toward getting all the red balls in the left section, and all the green balls in the right section. You don't have to do it that way, but the opening configuration kind of calls for it (or so it seems to me).
of 9: Continue moving balls back and forth between the two sides until you've gotten them all grouped correctly. (Remember that the four blue ones need to end up in the central section.)
