The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints
How can I solve the target range puzzle?
of 16: Remember to point at the animal targets so you can read their related clues.
of 16: Start with the lion. Its clue says that the gazelle is dead because it turned its back to the lion.
of 16: The first thing to do is click on the gazelle's down arrow to lay it back, indicating that it's dead.
of 16: You can also place the lion and gazelle targets next to each other, though there's no indication as to exactly where on the target range they should be. Also, there are two possible facings:
* Lion to left of gazelle, both facing right. * Lion to the right of gazelle, both facing left.
of 16: Next, check the clues for the vulture, the chimpanzee, and the giraffe to find that they're all connected.
of 16: The vulture grabbed the chimp, so the chimp is dead. Clicking on its down arrow is the first thing to do.
of 16: Also, those three targets should all be next to each other.
of 16: Furthermore, the clues say that the chimp was sitting at the edge of the jungle. That means it needs to be moved to either the far right or far left slot. (It doesn't really matter which.)
of 16: As for facings, it's a reasonable assumption that the chimp was facing away from the vulture, the vulture was facing it, and the giraffe was facing the vulture.
of 16: Now check the clues for the hare and the hyena to find that they're both dead. Click on their down arrows to indicate this.
of 16: The clue also says that the giraffe and hare were neighbors, so put the hare next to the giraffe, and the hyena next to the hare.
of 16: It's reasonable to assume the hyena was facing the hare, since it was waiting for the hare to come out of its burrow.
of 16: As for the hare's facing, it must have been facing the hyena, since it starved in its burrow instead of going out to get food. The only way it would do that is if it saw the hyena waiting for it.
of 16: The only piece left is the elephant. Its clue says that it can stand between predators and turn its back to the lion.
of 16: So put the elephant between the hyena and the lion, then turn it to face the hyena. (Note that this will require the gazelle to be left of the lion, with both animals facing left.)
of 16: If that doesn't immediately solve the puzzle, check through the pieces and clues to see what's out of place.
