The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints

How can I solve the rope puzzle?

  • 1 of 9: Start by moving all of the metal discs away from each other so you can easily see how many ropes are attached to each disc.
  • 2 of 9: Some have only two, some have three, and some have four. (Yes, it's really only one rope with ten metal discs attached, but it's easier to refer to each rope section as a separate rope.)
  • 3 of 9: Try moving all of the discs so that they form a sort of rough square shape around the border of the puzzle area.
  • 4 of 9: After that, look for ways to move the discs around, including into the center area, so that their ropes won't be crossing each other anywhere.
  • 5 of 9: The easiest discs to deal with are the ones that only have two ropes attached.
  • 6 of 9: You can usually move them out to a spot along the edge of your "square" to get them to where their ropes aren't crossing any other ropes.
  • 7 of 9: It's the discs with four ropes attached to them that can be a real problem. You'll have to work with them and the three-rope discs until you find a positioning that'll work.
  • 8 of 9: Once you get two or three discs to where their ropes are detangled from each other, move them as close to each other as possible, and then see if you can move them into a corner or onto an edge to help keep them out of the way of the other discs and their ropes.
  • 9 of 9: Unfortunately, this puzzle is way too random for me to give an exact solution, or any tips that are more specific. Just keep working with it (and hitting the "Reset" button if you want a new randomized configuration) until you get it.
