The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints

How can I use the maze to cross over?

  • 1 of 21: Click on the railing's three hotspots to find that two of them have to do with placing a rope, and the third one needs something different.
  • 2 of 21: The idea here is that you'll get across the maze to the other upper-floor area by moving across the tops of the maze walls.
  • 3 of 21: However, the walls are too thin for Holmes to walk across, so you'll need to find some planks that you can set across the maze walls to create a makeshift pathway.
  • 4 of 21: Select the planks in inventory, then click on the railing's leftmost hand icon to place one of them.
  • 5 of 21: Move up to the nearest end of the plank to get Holmes to carefully walk out onto it, then move to its other end to find a hand icon for placing the next plank.
  • 6 of 21: However, you can't do that yet, since there's nothing for the other end of the next plank to set on.
  • 7 of 21: Look down and move your view around until you can see that directly below the end of your plank is a movable wall panel.
  • 8 of 21: You'll need to get down into the maze area so you can move that panel into position for your next plank-setting. That's where the railing's two rope-related hotspots come in.
  • 9 of 21: Select your cloth rope in inventory, then go click on either of the railing's two hand icons that aren't related to plank placement.
  • 10 of 21: You can then click on the sheet's hand icon to climb down into the maze.
  • 11 of 21: Look up to see where your plank is, then go over to the wooden partition that's underneath its right end.
  • 12 of 21: Click on the small gear panel to the right of the partition to learn that it's rusty, and would make too much noise.
  • 13 of 21: You'll need to oil that panel before you can move the partition quietly.
  • 14 of 21: Select the oil in inventory, then go climb down the rope and click on the partition's rusty gear panel to oil it up.
  • 15 of 21: You can then click on the partition to move it quietly. After you do, climb back up the rope and get back onto the first plank.
  • 16 of 21: Select the planks in inventory again, then move to where you can click to place the second plank.
  • 17 of 21: Move along it until you can click to place the third plank, then move onto it and click to find that you can't place the fourth plank until another partition gets moved.
  • 18 of 21: After moving that partition, go back the way you came so you can climb up the rope and get back onto the planks.
  • 19 of 21: Go down them until you can place the fourth plank, then move onto it and place the fifth plank.
  • 20 of 21: Unfortunately, you'll need a sixth plank to get across to the upper-floor area you're trying to reach.
  • 21 of 21: Once the final plank is in place, you can walk across it to finally be done with the plank-walking -- unless you neglected to get something useful back on the other side.
