The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints
Finding the Stolen Necklace (Tutorial)
of 12: After the starting cut-scene is over, move your view around with the mouse until the tutorial prompt to do so disappears, then use the WASD keys to move Holmes around the room until that prompt disappears.
of 12: Move toward the glass showcase that's to the right of Watson until you get a magnifying glass icon on it, then left-click to examine it and get the next tutorial prompt.
of 12: Walk (or run) over to the leftmost of the room's three windows to get two magnifying glass icons. Left-click twice to examine the first hotspot, then do the same to examine the second one.
of 12: Go over to the fireplace that's to the right of the glass showcase to get a hand icon, then click on it to take the magnifying glass. (Note that you'll need to click twice if the glass case's hotspot is within range.)
of 12: Next, press I to bring up the inventory, then press ESC to close it.
of 12: Go over toward the piano until you get a hand icon on the music sheets that are on the floor, then click to get Holmes to say that he needs something. That means he needs to use an item from inventory (the magnifying glass, in this case) on it.
of 12: Since you don't have very many items in your inventory yet, the easiest way is to turn the mouse wheel until the magnifying glass is displayed in the top right corner of the screen, then left-click to use it on the hand icon's hotspot.
of 12: In the close-up view, click on the magnifying glass icon that's in the bottom right corner of the screen to get a large magnifying glass cursor. Move it around over the music sheets and click in various spots until Holmes finds some sooty handprints.
of 12: After that, use the R key several times to switch around between the three view modes (first person, third person, and third person point-and-click) a few times. Also, use LEFT SHIFT to run around the room in each mode (except point-and-click mode, in which you need to double-click on a spot to run). Keep that up until you get the tutorial prompt for pressing the SPACEBAR.
of 12: Do so, then switch to whichever view mode you prefer (I recommend third person without the point-and-click) while looking around the room for more clues.
of 12: Remember that clues you've already examined will be marked by green-outlined magnifying glasses, and clues you haven't yet examined will be marked by blue-outlined magnifying glasses. Also watch for other icons, including a hand icon and a talk icon.
of 12: Move all around the room, clicking to examine new clues (and to talk to Watson), until the tutorial-finishing cut-scene starts up. If you're having trouble getting it, use the SPACEBAR (Holmes' "sixth sense") to help you find what you're missing. For instance, I kept missing the clues that are on and near the room's central table until SPACEBAR helped me locate them.
