How can I figure out the third dial's number?

  • 1 of 9: Its clue numbers are similar to the second dial's, but if you add up the two complete rows and the two complete columns, you won't get the same number for either one.
  • 2 of 9: Notice that if you start at the 21 and go around the "square" from there, each number is less than the previous one.
  • 3 of 9: This indicates that subtraction is the basic math operation used here.
  • 4 of 9: Try subtracting each number (except 21) from the number before it to see what you get.
  • 5 of 9: You'll get 21 - 18 = 3, 18 - 16 = 2, 16 - 15 = 1, 15 - 12 = 3, 12 - 10 = 2, 10 - 9 = 1, and 9 - 6 = 3.
  • 6 of 9: Notice any pattern in the differences?
  • 7 of 9: The first one is 3, the second one is 2, and the third one is 1. Then it's 3 again, then 2 again, then 1 again. Then it's 3 yet again. What would come next?
  • 8 of 9: Obviously, it would be 2.
  • 9 of 9: So subtract 2 from 6 to get 4. Set the third dial to 4.
