1 of 19: You need a number combination to get past the door. Check the area around the door for a hint.
2 of 19: There's a memo on a bulletin board near the door. Read it. It reads:
3 of 19: "The first is larger than the second. The second is twice the third. The third is smaller than the fourth. The fourth is half the first.
Four of the numbers are not repeated, Three are not in the top row, Two are not in the right row. One of the numbers is the final key."
4 of 19: It's all a math problem. Just try to keep track of the numbers (either in your head or on paper) as you work through the logic.
5 of 19: For simplicity's sake, let's use "A" as the first number, "B" as the second number, "C" as the third number, and "D" as the fourth number. According to the first part of the hint...
6 of 19: A > B B = 2C C < D D = (1/2)A
7 of 19: This isn't enough, though, for there are still several possible combinations following these rules. So, examine the second part of the hint...
8 of 19: It basically says that there are no repeats, one number is in the top row, and two are in the right column. Using both parts of the hint as a guideline, there's only one possible combination.
9 of 19: Examine the four numbers carefully. What kind of relationships are apparent from the first part of the hint?
10 of 19: A > B, B > C (since it takes two C's to make one B), C < D, but D = (1/2)A. What can you conclude from this?
11 of 19: So far, you can conclude that A is the largest of the four numbers since all are either smaller than A or B (which is smaller than A).
12 of 19: Also, A is an even number since it is equal to one half of D.
13 of 19: So, A is either 2, 4, 6, or 8. Check these possible values for A with the equations from the first part of the hint.
14 of 19: A = 2. Three numbers can't be less than 2 and greater than 1 with no repeats. A is not 2.
15 of 19: A = 4. Let's run this through. D = (1/2)(4). D = 2. C < (2). C = 1. B = 2(1). B = 2.
B = 2 = D. According to the second part of the hint, there are no repeats. A is not 4.
16 of 19: A = 6. Let's run this through, too. D = (1/2)(6). D = 3. C < (3). C = 1 or 2.
1 and 2 (the possible values of C) and 3 (the value of D) are all in the top row. According to the second part of the hint, there is only one number in the top row. A is not 6.
17 of 19: A = 8. Let's run this through. D = (1/2)(8). D = 4. C < (4). C = 1, 2, or 3. B = 2C. B = 2, 4, or 6.
If C is 1, B is 2, both of which are in the top row. C is not 1, B is not 2. If C is 2, B is 4, which is equal to D. C is not 2, B is not 4. If C is 3, B is 6, which is the only one that works. B = 6 and C = 3.
18 of 19: A = 8 is the only value of A that has no conflicts with the second part of the hint. So, all the values that stem from A = 8 are the correct values.
