Silent Hill 3 Hints
Closer
1 of 2: Closers are large, stocky beasts with long, thick arms (which you may remember hanging under the ground from Silent Hill 2). They have two main types of attack: 1) Knocking Heather to the ground with their arms, or 2) stabbing at Heather with a needle protruding from their arms. Later in the game, they'll also gain an attack in which they stick their arms out and spin wildly. As the game progresses, Closers get increasingly more difficult throughout the game -- the ones with black streaks crawling all over their bodies near the end of the game are very formidable.
2 of 2: If you have the choice, it's usually best to run from Closers, as they can do a large amount of damage and can take quite a bit themselves, also. If running isn't an option, though, it's best to keep your distance and fire with the handgun while backstepping or sidestepping to keep out of their reach. If you'd rather not spend the ammo and there's only one Closer, try to time an overhead or thrusting attack so that it hits the Closer just before it attacks. If your attack and timing are correct, you can interrupt the Closer's attack, buying you a free hit. Closers usually take a while to attack, so you can also rather easily block their attacks. It's usually best to not try to sidestep because it can be difficult due to their long reach. If a Closer starts spinning, keep your distance and wait for it to finish -- it's too dangerous to try to attack it during this time.
