Silent Hill 3 Hints
Slurper
1 of 2: You know when a Slurper is near when you hear an undulating, betcha can't guess, slurping noise. Slurpers crawl close to the ground, running their anteater-like noses across the floor, waiting for Heather to wander a bit too close. Slurpers have two attacks: 1) attacking Heather's legs as they run past, and 2) sweeping Heather's legs out from under her, knocking her to the ground. They'll often follow up the second attack by crawling on Heather as she lies on the ground, dealing additional damage. Slurpers can often avoid being spotted due to the fact they're so close to the ground and they move rather fast, so pay attention to the noise. They also tend to attack in groups. When you deal some damage to a Slurper and it falls down, don't be fooled! It's just playing dead, and will take you down if you wander too close. Slurpers will fall down with a distinctive cry when they actually die.
2 of 2: There are several ways to deal with Slurpers. If you have ammo to spare, the handgun can offer a good way to avoid the Slurper's attack as you deal damage by back and sidestepping as you fire. If there's a large group of Slurpers, the shotgun can scatter them all, giving you a chance to pick one out of the crowd. If you'd rather not spend the ammo on Slurpers, use a long melee weapons such as the katana, pipe, or maul (the maul can be especially useful in this case if you learn to time its attacks right) to bash 'em down. Remember to make sure they're dead before you wander too close for the final stomp.
